Project Management Institute

The Project Management Institute is situated in the USA and is a not for profit organization for project management. It was established in 1969 by James Snyder, Gordon Davis, Eric Jenett, E.A. "Ned" Engman and Susan C. Gallagher. The company was founded in Pennsylvania. It started off in 1960's to be used in aerospace, defense industries, and construction.

Projects Management Institute’s first credential was PMP, which has also become its standard certification along with PRINCE 2 certification in project management.

Standard of Development

To develop a specific standard of PMI, they charter a committee which includes a chairman, vice chairman and a number of volunteers and assigns a Project Management Institute staff member to serve as a resource.

The board holds a convention, over a period of several months and they draft and filter their standards.

The Project Management Institute’s MAG and subject matter experts reconsider the draft and give it back to the committee, for modification.

PMI’s revised exposure version is available, for public commentary, which the committee considers and then, it is revised again.

The over and done with the standard is sent for sanction. From the project management institute’s consent body, a group of volunteers authenticates the development process of each PMI standard.

On approval by the PMI standards executive, the new standard is permitted by the project management institute’s president and CEO.
